Part documentary, part prayer, part planetary contemplation – this “Provocumentary” came to me early in the COVID pandemic when I felt some larger Copernician shift was trying to happen on Earth. With so much environmental, political and viral tension in the air it felt as if the fabric of the cosmos was tearing apart we just couldn’t see it.

But then I asked, “What if we could?”

What if, one day, we all woke up and there was a giant tear in the sky? A massive gouge through the clear blue sky into the wet, black, starry unknown. And if science couldnt
explain it and government couldn’t control it – who or where would we look to for answers? What if not a literal tear in the ceiling of our imaginations would propel us into another kind of thinking/dreaming/ being?

The film “The Opening” and in this speculative scenario, the gash in the clouds acts as a prism and when light passes through it and touches people on Earth, they have what can only be described as visions. Mystical, prophetic, numinous, ceremonial visions.

None of which of course, fit into the world as we know it.

I then reached out and interviewed a diverse crew of salt of the earth luminaries and disruptive thinkers (Indigenous grandmothers, Nigerian Philosophers, a quantum physicist, healers, farmers, artists and elders ) – and asked them what they saw when they stared into the portal of these times. I wove all of the footage into the world’s first “Provocumentary.” The Opening is proof of concept for a much larger cinematic vision.
